plateros Barboglio & Mi Golondrina Trunk Show – August 9-11
Introducing jewelry by legendary home accessories designer Jan Barboglio.
The natural extension of a life in design and
the most personal expression of classic Barboglio motifs.
Jan’s first collection showcases unusual combinations of materials, honing in on sensations of ancestral Mexico, both tribal and spiritual. Metals include a green gold alloy of zinc and brass, oxidized to an old gold shimmer; silver is combined with volcanic rock; and rock crystal critters abound.
Offerings include necklaces, bracelets, cuffs, earrings, and surprises that can only spring from Jan’s creative genius; and pieces are designed to compliment any size stature. Embellished with Barboglio hallmarks and symbols, these are talismans you’ll treasure, including one-of-a-kind signed artist’s proofs.
+ keeping it in the family, from Tia Jan’s niece Cristina Lynch +
Fine cotton dresses, shirts and skirts, designed by Cristina Lynch, hand-embroidered in Mexico, and then finished in Cristina’s local workshop–for mothers and daughters.
Cristina’s Story:
As a child, my mother instilled in me a great appreciation and love for the heritage and history of Mexico. Some of my fondest, happiest memories are of wearing beautiful embroidered blouses and long flowing dresses while dancing with my mother and listening to Mariachi…
In 2013…Mi Golondrina was born. I partnered with artisans in the small communities of Mexico to hand-embroider cotton shirts, dresses, pillows, and skirts. When I started meeting with these artisans, I was amazed by the art of the embroidery and the fact this tradition has persisted for centuries; and it made me even more compelled to tell their story through clothing.
People always ask me why the name Mi Golondrina? As a child, we often frequented my grandfather’s ranch house in Mexico, and it had swallow nests under the roof. Golondrina is Spanish for ‘swallow’ or ‘songbird’. I envision Mi Golondrina, or ‘My Songbird,’ flying about and delivering beautiful dresses from different parts of Mexico to women all over the world.
