Nancy Lee Andrews’ show features images of Ringo Starr, The Beatles, and other musicians, printed on archival paper, and some in limited series. Her books for sale are Ringo Starr: Photographs, a limited collector’s edition with a bonus 8×10 signed print of Ringo (previously unreleased); as well as two separate editions of her coffee table book, A Dose of Rock ‘n’ Roll–one boxed, both signed.
Working for the Ford Model Agency, Nancy Lee Andrews model for some of the greatest photographers of the 1960s and 70s. They included Richard Avedon, Bert Stern, Dick Ballerian, Irving Penn, and Gordon Munro, but it was Milton Greene who recognized that she had a burning desire to click the shutter herself. “He handed me a Nikon camera and said, “try it and see what happens,” Andrews recalls. “From that first roll onwards, I was hooked on the process of capturing the constantly changing moment. People are the most fascinating subjects on earth and I have loved photography ever since.”
Encouraged by former Beatle Ringo Starr, to whom she was engaged for several years in the 1970s, Andrews began shooting fashion for designer boutiques along Rodeo Drive and Melrose Avenue. She also shot Starr’s publicity photos and two of his album covers. Andrews “had a front row seat to the most amazing show on earth. I met captains of industry and Captain Fantastic, partied with royalty and disco queens, dined at tables set with gold yet ate off paper plates with the rich and famous.”
A Dose of Rock ‘n’ Roll, a coffee table book, reveals the intimate access to music royalty that was accorded Nancy Lee Andrews. The photographs, beginning in 1970, present assorted iconic images that have become an historical imprint of that era. Among legendary names pictured in this compilation besides Ringo are John Lennon, George Harrison, Keith Moon, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Keith Moon, Harry Nilsson and Gregg Allman, to name a few. Ringo Starr: Photographs followed in 2014. Andrews’ work is also shown in galleries all across the country.
